In Memoriam VA West Davidson
Aug.28,1916-Oct.20, 2009

On Tuesday of last hebdomad Virginia West Davidson of Rochester, New York perished at the age of 93. VA was a woman of religion, a woman of the church, a former frailty moderator of the UPCUSA, functioning on important commissions in the denomination, a libber and a strong ally in the move to enact Tribade, Homosexual, Bisexual and Transgender people in our Church. Her unrelenting and faithful informant will long be retrieved. Many things can and will be stated about her, but here I will indulge in episodic memory for she and her hubby Davey were too personal friends. We saw her last two ages ago on a brief visit to Rochester and although she was no more a constituent of our lives in the manner she holded once been, memories of her presence came herding in following the years of her decease. She was Moderator of the Presbytery of Genesee Vale in 1975, when my hubby, David, was named to the Downtown Presbyterian Church of Rochester, New York, where Ginny besides functioned as an senior. She was not contented with the mode in which the commission holded set about its hunt for a co-pastor in her fold, and so disputed the call to David in the Presbytery. She charged that in the nominating, questioning and naming procedure the demands for justness in the battle for equality of all individuals holded not been encountered. Equality in gender and ethnicity, and besides in sexual orientation was not much on the skyline of our denomination, but it certainly get on VA 's skyline. Officially, her challenge lost in the presbytery, but her stance instructed us a slew. David and I certainly, ne'er buried that lesson in preoccupation with justness. I, for one, lost some of the naturalness in which I holded wrapped myself until that clip.

Once gotten in Rochester and going introduced with Ginny, she went a mentor to me in opening upwards issues in the church that I holded not regarded earlierly. Finally we went friends. She and Davey presented us to the wonderments of the Adirondacks, and passed happy times there together before Davey 's decease. In the metropolis of Rochester, their house was a house of calculated selection: how it was maked and where it was constructed. For others, like David and myself, it was a house of hospitality, a house were nutrient was fixed to be basked together. It was a house where conversation go on, where music was executed and heard; a house where books were read and discourse, where words were pent; a house where counselor was given and taken and where friendships took their first provisionary stairs.

VA 's voice was voice that persistently verbalize of justness and in her work in the church she sought to take about justness. The work of justness speaking and justness seeking must be passed on, so it will keep through the contemporarieses. This is the undertaking of those of us who hold been around awhile; it is one of which VA West Davidson acquitted herself goodly. In the mid LXX the issue of ordination for all people, irrespective of sexual orientation and gender individuality, was already a important issue of justness for her. She handled patiently and kindness one much jr., like myself, who holded a more hesitating stance and therefore she forced me along to regard and reconsider. She was a woman who mouth truth, who invited all to her welcome table, and who ne'er gave au fait further the cause of justness and equality for those who were stripped of it in the community of religion.

The body is passed from the years work
All work looks to taxation bodies
If from morn to nighttime, there is no easy work
The pes are sore from keeping the body 's weight

Sometimes the day is genuinely passed
There is nada to make except find
Todays fatigue can proceed tomorrow
Tomorrows projects are not lessened

The brain can not e'er procedure tomorrow
Today it is null but jelly
The fingers make not dance
alternatively the eyes impulsion shut

The body passes in and out of slumber
Tomorrow will come only too early
Today is not yet ready to terminate
Sometimes the nous nags that today holds labor besides.

In the terminal, all will work out
Today is Sabbath, tomorrow is labor.

Write of Sun. Still enduring that stupid concern and Am now convinced it is headache remarkable. The undertaking of being happy and friendly when enduring is beyond my powerfulness I involve God 's strength. Hopefully the concern will only move forth shortly.

Simple Copiousness
[info]calcelledazgf

I love when situations or people surprise Maine in good
slipways. I 'm not fond of times whenpeople surprise me in bad shipways or whenpeopledo things that I am floored about ordisappointed in... but I love when I am caught of guard by a good title or a nice gesture. E.g., a friend of mine maked me a favor right before I left my old occupation and attended to work on a new company she indited something for me that was better than I ever could hold composed and I could say she set suchly idea and clip into doing it unequaled and personal. This intended much tome. I 'm not sure that she agnises how thankful I was/am for that, but I hold conceived about it quite an few times since.

I consider that it Holds so easy to get caught upwards in the sameness of mundane life that you sometimes demand a surprise to wake upwardly you again and remind you that life is n't ever predictable. The beauty of life is that you ne'er cognize where it will direct you. Sometimes people that you believed you 'd ne'er see again fetch up playing starring parts in your life eld afterward. I detest to tell it, but sometimes people that I hold doubted at one clip or another attend to surprise me and do me recognise that I should n't hold doubted them. This reminds me ne'er to doubt people unless they give you a ground to make so... and to ne'er sell yourself short.

The other day I got place to chance a bundle waiting for me from my pa in Alabama. Since he maked n't state me he was attending be directing me something, I was excited to see what was in the box!

Goodly, I opened it and saw that it was a hard-coverjournal he bumped that I holded given my gran ( Grammy ) in 1998 for Christmastime. It was a gratitude diary with pages that were intended to be filled inwards by the receiver. She certainly maked a good line ofadding elaborate entries with small highlighted subdivisions and garbages of paper when she holded no more room. She pent downward very much
of small things in her life that were locomoting on... the people that came by to see her, the things she maked, what the calendar dates intended ( like anniversaries or years she lost loved ones ), the temperature exterior, and even foregrounded over the years that I named her following to a bit smiley face she pulled in ( which was nearly every individual day ).

I was so glad to get this book. It is now one of the most special things I possess one of the things I would catch if there were a fire. I love that my papa cognized it would intend a good deal to me and directed it, I love that he kept along to that, and I love that he maked n't state me he chance it before he directed it. Getting it in the mail doed my day ( perchance even doed my hebdomad ). I was allured to sit downwardly and read the whole thing, but Am pressuring myself to read it easily and savour the fact that the small things were plenty to hold her completely happy... 100 % content with her beautiful, simple life.

Helios Occultation Epilog
[info]calcelledazgf

I was walking around the promenade to appraise the cost of an internal information card reader for my computer when I though I would merely drop in the book shop to see if there are any new interesting books. Several glimpse through the shelves and I was kinda convinced that it was the same as several years ago when I last checked so I was about to leave when I suddenly experienced like utilizing the electronic hunting stall to see if there are anything concealed that I might be interested in, oh whadaya know~

!

Helios Occultation Epilog, the terminal book in the looong running series and too my concluding connexion with the local comics scene. It demoed there was 40 stocks available on the screen but I ca n't see any on the shelves. So I inquired the client service desk and they promptly travelled into the shop room behind and got one out for me... It was n't even layed out yet lol! I hold n't looked it upwardly online before leaving for the promenade but a cheque a minute ago demoed the official site hold n't even updated to demonstrate this new book overly. Now I 'm considering perhaps I got it before its planned release...

Goodly anyhow, as for the contents, it ceases the series moderately goodly. Several hints presented in the yesteryear are eventually gathered and explicated; some I maked n't even recall until it was adverted. But & lt; spoilers before, spotlit to read & gt;
I ca n't aid but experience that Soileh 's alteration of bosom in the terminal feels sort of hale... I intend, he was
bent destruct all of beingness from downright vengence for the past 7 books. What Holds Helios salvaging him once
is attending do him turn a new leafage immediately? But otherwise that, the terminal climax was jollily cool. Too with how the narrative holded been developing from the past volumes, it holded been rattlingly likely that the series would hold ceased with a sad ceasing so the sudden game turn therein one that ensued in a happy one was rather interesting. I make like game turns after all: Phosphorus

& lt; /spoiler & gt;
And now with this series over I hold eventually lost all my neckties to the local mirthful scene... again
... until Kaoru relinquish another book that is, or if something else interesting gimmicks my attending.

`` Invention!
[info]calcelledazgf

This summertime a educatee in my Depaul Mindset of Innovation course
was researching U.s. policy on invention, and he claimed to be unable to chance anything updated in ages. He land up speaking equally much about Canada 's invention policy as that in the America.

Now, that Holds not completely just, as American invention policy holds not been completely absent in the past decennary, but Obama clearly is pealing the Invention bell a great deal louder. Last hebdomad, as I drove through the beautiful, purple-specked I-80 in PA on a route trip Eastward, Obama talked nearby in New York 's Hudson Vale, over again accentuating the importance of invention for our economy, as he did in early August

`` So as we put in the edifice blocks of invention, from the schoolroom to the lab, '' Obama stated the crowd, `` it Holds likewise indispensable that we hold competitory and vivacious marketplaces that further invention, also. Didactics and research aid further new thoughts, but it takes just and free marketplaces to turn those thoughts into industries. ''
Click here to read the transcript of Obama's talk on innovation.

As I 'll write on in my following blog, there holds been innovation enterprises during the past decennium that hold holded national aspirations and some impact. But Obama 's keeping concentrate on the Innovation Imperative
-that we as a nation and a civilization postulate to encompass creativeness and invention to insure a successful future-seems different and substantial. The White House names it the Obama Innovation Strategy
, which includes the undermentioned three parts:

1. Invest in the Edifice Blocks of American Invention
, from investings in research and development to the human, physical, and technological capital involved to do that research and reassign those inventions.
2. Promote Competitive Markets that Goad Productive Entrepreneurship.

It is imperative to make a national environment ripe for entrepreneurship and peril pickings that lets U.S. companies to be internationally competitory in a world-wide exchange of thoughts and invention.
3. Catalyze Breakthroughs for Subject Priorities.
Governmental can aid support sectors of surpassing national importance-including alternate energy rootage, wellness IT, and constructing advanced vehicles-that marketplaces solely can not do hap.

Now, the doubters in us recognise that another talking that is still exhorting that `` we are ready '' to make this may or may not take to existent modification. But I believe the more invention goes component of our national conversation, the more likely we are to encompass our originative potentiality and proactively determine our futurity instead than allowing it influence us.

Clueless
[info]calcelledazgf

After inditing a blog about longanimity, I sit here today and wait a few e-mails today. As we all cognise, Gmail determined to implode. In its backwash of refreshing, I elected to blow some clip taking a Facebook quiz...

Of which, the undermentioned inquiry comes upwards that I am clueless as to which one to respond:

How would you draw yourself?

  • Simple

  • Elegant

  • Rebellious

  • Looney

  • Glamorous

  • Iciness

  • Modern

  • Adventerous

  • Traditional

Why? Because I acknowledge, I 'm a trifle of all of the above. I hold my moments where I am merely a touching unhinged. As an artist, its rare when there is such a thing as complete saneness. Mostly I 'd care to tell though that I am rattlingly simple, occassionally glamourous, traditional but rather modern at the same clip... etctera.

What I desire is something like all of this...

`` I desire a blend of simple, fiery, easy travelling, passionate, insaneness, comfortableness and escapade... undoable. ''

I cognise exactly what I desire and who I am... and yet here I am... clueless.

Labels.

I love thee and yet, you are pathetic.

four really long words
[info]calcelledazgf

The Order of Logogustation makes cognize how to party... polysyllabically. One popular event is Nighttime of the Long Words. Its unofficial subject vocal is `` Splendid Birds '' ( too named `` This Is the Ikon '' ) by Laurie Anderson and Peter Gabriel, which holds the line `` Long words. First-class words. I can hear them now. ''

We care to convey out some of the old front-runners - words and arguments. Which word to numerate as the longest word, e.g..

`` I am of the view that in normal fortunes one may enumerate antidisestablishmentarianism
as the longest word in the English as it is spoken today among those words not deliberately coined only for the interest of being long, '' opined Raoul Carter at a recent example of the meeting.

`` You 've negociated to produce a sentence equally polysynthetic as that word, '' I remarked approvingly.

`` Moreso, '' Raoul stated. `` There are merely seven morphemes in antidisestablishmentarianism
, not equally many as I holded modifying phrases. '' He was right, excessively, by one manner of numerating them anyways: anti
Orcus
launch
ment
ari
an
philosophy
One can not decompose launch
, the stable root of the word, farther; it comes, by manner of former Gallic establir
( now tablir
), from Latin stabilire
, which infers from stabilis
`` stable. '' Add thereto in the undermentioned sequence: disestablishment
( significance, therein example, separation of church from province ), disestablishmentary
( an adjectival signifier ), antidisestablishmentary
( import opposed to this ism of disestablishment ), antidisestablishmentarian
( of an antidisestablishmentary nature ), and eventually, as the noun for the belief in that resistance to disestablishment, antidisestablishmentarianism

`` The job, '' my old friend Philippe gived, `` is that the word really but 's in the language now Simply surivived, and mayhap verily was actuate in the first spot - because of its length. And if you are of the sesquipedalian temperament, so absolutely, without query, undeniably, obviously, floccinaucinihilipilification
is a longer word on paper. ''

`` Cute, '' I told. `` Another syntax-morphology matchup. '' Philippe doed a little bowknot of acknowledgment. The first four morphemes of floccinaucinihilipilification
flocci
nauci
nihili
, and pili
- all denote undistinguished things or aught and semen from phrases ( in the Eton Latin Grammar
) intending `` make n't care '' -each of the words plus facere
, `` do '' (e.g., flocci facere
The word as a whole, excogitate fancifully for the interest of length, mentions to the enactment or wont of guessing something as worthless.

`` Withal, it holds one less phoneme, '' Raoul remarked correctly ( it holds two instances where two missives correspond one phoneme - gold
and Ti
- whereas Raoul 's word holds but one, sh

`` And, but then, one more syllable, '' Philippe parried.

`` But if we 're to permit words that hold been contrived to be long, '' I told, `` so you both cognise that a longer words stalks the vocabulary: open your lexicons to pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
I maked not seek to mirror the morphology with my syntax.

`` Ick, '' Raoul told. `` It Holds not even rattlingly goodly organized. There Holds no especially good ground to hold it joined between microscopic
and silico
It Holds like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
It Holds justly not normal in English to set an ninety-nine
midmost of a word without suchly as a dash. ''

`` Besides, '' Philippe added, dogpiling on, `` it Holds only a surgically raised version of silicosis
There is n't another individual word that evince either of our words; you demand a phrase for each of them. ''

`` If maybe a shorter phrase, '' I showed out.

At this point Jess walked upward. `` Gents, '' she told, `` there is
a word of wellly length that was coined allly earnestly. ''

`` Oh, not that bloody chemical name that involves a softback, '' Raoul stated, rolling his eyes.

`` No, '' Jess stated, `` that Holds in no dictionary, and if that word 's so one need merely fix a slightly more complex chemical and come upwards with an even longer word ' for this suppositional substance. No, I intend pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism
Equally of it holds a ground to be there, even both sham
secs. '' True: pseudohypoparathyroidism is a status that appears like hypoparathyroidism - a parathyroid want - but is n't, and pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism successively resembles that status but is n't it.

`` Oh, that Holds but a proficient term, '' Raul told with a wave of his mitt.

`` Intending person really applies it, '' Jess countered.

`` Funny, though, '' stated Philippe, `` cypher ever speaks about that one. ''

`` People make lean to shy offly from inherited metabolic upsets, '' I told. `` But too, it Holds not really in the game, as it were. It was n't coined to be long; it Holds an inadvertent contender. ''

Raoul, meanwhile, holded been mutely enunciating while calculating his fingers. `` Not if you numerate phonemes or syllables it makes n't, '' he told.

`` I believe he Holds floccinaucinihilipilificating your word, '' Philippe told to Jess.

`` It Holds still a word that is really employed seriously, '' Jess stated. `` And it Holds smooth and rhythmical. ''

She holded a point. And I leave the farther tasting of these words - their mouthfeel and repeats particularly - to the reader as an workout. Quite spot of workout, I 'd tell.
